MEDEX Northwest: Updated Prerequisites for the UW Physician Assistant Training Program

MEDEX Northwest has recently approved changes to the program prerequisites. Please Note: each required prerequisite listed below must be met with a minimum GPA of 2.7 (B-) or better to qualify.

If you are advising students considering making an application to MEDEX for either the Masters or Bachelors of Clinical Health Services degree option in the 2015/2016 application cycle please advise that the following courses will need to be completed on or before the final application deadline of October 1st in the year that the student applies to MEDEX Northwest.

Required:

Two (2) Human Anatomy & Physiology courses – 10 qtr./6 sem. credits

One (1) General Biology course – 5 qtr./3 sem. credits

One (1) Microbiology course – 5 qtr./3 sem. credits

One (1) Chemistry course – 5 qtr./3 sem. credits

One (1) Statistics course – 5 qtr./3 sem. credits

Two (2) English courses – 10 qtr./6 sem. credits

-Must include one (1) Composition course

MEDEX now requires a minimum 2,000 hours of direct patient care experience. All applicants, beginning in the 2015/2016 cycle, must meet this minimum on or before October 1st in the year they apply.

Recommended:

In addition to the required courses listed above we are recommending the following courses to strengthen the application and show a high level of academic readiness when applying.

One (1) Biochemistry course

One (1) Genetics course

Social Sciences (Sociology, Psychology, Anthropology)

We continue to strongly recommend 4,000 hours of direct patient care experience. Competitive applicants typically exceed the recommended hours when applying to MEDEX Northwest.
