News & Info Sessions: BASW and MSW Programs in the UW School of Social Work

Upcoming Information Sessions for the BASW & MSW Programs: The School of Social Work has several information sessions for our BASW and MSW programs scheduled throughout the autumn quarter. Students are invited to meet with a member of our Admissions team for a brief discussion of the profession of social work, our curriculum and admissions application process, followed by Q&A. Our next BASW information session will be held on Oct. 15th and our next MSW information session will be held on Oct. 10th. Students may register for upcoming information sessions by visiting the School of Social Work admissions web page. Important Program Prerequisite Change to the MSW Program: Effective autumn 2014, the human biology requirement is being incorporated into the first-year MSW foundation coursework. Students who are entering autumn 2014 are no longer required to provide proof of completion of a human biology course outside of the MSW program. Completion of the statistics requirement is still required for all newly admitted students in order to take Soc W 506. This is not an admissions requirement nor is it factored in the admission decision. Students who are admitted into the program must submit official transcripts AND complete the review form in order to have the statistics requirement reviewed. For more information: For copies of our Viewbook or questions about admissions, please contact our Admissions Office at 206-543-5676. We offer admission advising every Thursday from 10 – 12 p.m. and from 1 – 3 p.m. Students may also send an email to set up an in-person or telephone appointment. Find out more at socialwork.uw.edu or on our Facebook page. Thank you! Best, Admissions Staff University of Washington School of Social Work Office of Admissions www.socialwork.uw.edu 206-543-5676

Resources for prospective PA students

Introducing the new pre-PA website, by the Physician Assistant Education Association.

PAEA’s new PA Focus website is designed to be a helpful resource geared toward PA school applicants and others who have an interest in becoming physician assistants. Here is where visitors will find answers to questions about what types of PA programs are available, applying to and paying for PA school, and CASPA, as well as advice for veterans about pursuing a PA career.

The PA Focus site will be continuously evolving, with the goal of becoming a one-stop comprehensive information center for anyone considering the PA profession.

A Twitter account (@pa_focus) has also been created as well as an email address (support) where questions can be directed. And, of course, our popular PA Focus Facebook page will continue to interactively engage applicants and pre-applicants.

In addition, a physician assistant virtual fair for students interested in physician assistant will take place on Tuesday & Wednesday, July 16 & 17. Students and advisors can register and attend the virtual fair and chat with over 30 PA program representatives for FREE! For more information or to register, Click Here.

Annoucing the NEW application service for Dental Hygiene

Colleagues:

The American Dental Education Association would like to announce the launching of the Dental Hygiene Centralized Application Service (DHCAS). This is a centralized application service for individuals applying to entry level, degree completion, and graduate degree dental hygiene programs. Similar to ADEA AADSAS, the application to dental school, applicants are able to apply to multiple participating programs with one application and one set of documents. For more information on ADEA DHCAS, please visit www.adeadhcas.org.

Applicants can begin researching participating dental hygiene programs in the Search Engine now. Search participating dental hygiene programs by state or by program type at http://programpages.dhcas.org/search. Applicants are able to begin their application and submit through ADEA DHCAS after August 12, 2013. Please note the instructions for the application will be posted on the website the week of July 15th .

We are asking that you please share this information with colleagues and interested students. Thank you for helping to spread the word .
